I love this place. The owner and cashier are very kind. I always enjoy having small talk with them (yes, I'm Korean). They're always willing to help when I can't find an item on the shelves. The best thing is that they have a variety of rice cakes made from scratch. Can't bit the chewiness of freshly made rice cake. It's a tiny supermarket but I haven't had any problem getting what I need for making Korean food.
Miles better than Galleria, which has such bad service I no longer frequent it. Sometimes it takes them a while to stock a particular item, but assuming that it comes from Korea, that's understandable these days. English is patchy, but I'd far rather have good service from a hesitant English speaker than terrible service from a native speaker (the latter of which is what Galleria offers). The offerings are more interesting than even Hua Xing, although this is such a small place, so it's become my favorite Asian market now.
Nice store. Had everything we needed. Clean. Open during this. Wear a mask and shop away.
I don't get to this market all that often since it's on the other side of town where I live but when I've been in the area and in need of a few items for the pantry I've popped in. As others have said, this market skews more towards Korean cuisine. I'm not Korean so a lot of the items aren't familiar to me but I like to cook a variety of cuisines at home so I stop in when I need a specialized item that I can't find at my regular grocer. They've got a comprehensive selection of snacks, spices, oils, and a great selection of frozen and refrigerated items from dumplings to kimchi, meats, and more. Not huge but they always have what I'm looking for.
This store is the most authentic Korean grocery in Ann Arbor. The next best thing is HMart in Troy, but that's 45 min away. They have all of the classic Korean snacks, ingredients, and fresh vegetables. The owner helped us load our car we bought so much stuff!! Love it!!!
